How can the Dallas Cowboys regain their momentum following a bye week? After a week off, the Cowboys will travel west to confront a team that has posed significant challenges for them in recent years: the San Francisco 49ers.

Currently sitting at 3-3, Dallas finds itself in a critical must-win scenario, especially with the NFC East standings led by the Washington Commanders (5-2) and the Philadelphia Eagles (4-2).

The 49ers have triumphed in their last three encounters with Dallas, including back-to-back playoff wins in 2021 and 2022. Historically, San Francisco leads the overall series against the Cowboys, boasting 20 wins to Dallas’ 19 and one tie, with their rivalry beginning in 1960.

Both teams have met in the NFC Championship six times, where Dallas holds a 4-2 edge.

As for their current lineups, both teams are dealing with a fair share of injuries this Sunday night.

Dallas is managing without Pro Bowl defensive end Demarcus Lawrence and hopes to see All-Pros cornerback DaRon Bland and linebacker Micah Parsons return.

Meanwhile, San Francisco faces a significant injury crisis, awaiting the return of All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey and linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Additionally, the 49ers have lost wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the season due to a torn ACL suffered during last Sunday’s 28-18 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs.

With those factors in mind, here are three essential strategies for Dallas to improve its record.

**Limit Explosive Plays**

Despite injuries, San Francisco’s offense has remained explosive this season, largely due to their ability to create big plays.

**Control Jordan Mason**

In the absence of Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason has stepped in effectively. While he may not match McCaffrey’s skill level, Mason has shown he can be a productive running back.

**Dominate the Trenches**

Once again, the Cowboys will face a formidable pass rusher, with All-Pro Nick Bosa posing the most significant threat to their offense. Bosa can disrupt plays even when double-teamed, making him a key factor in the game.
