The suspect in a series of vandalism charges that destroyed parts of three downtown San Francisco stations has been apprehended by the Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Department (BART PD).
stations in San Francisco. According to BART’s official news release, Saqueo Delcidmontenegro, 28, a city resident, was arrested on a BART train on Tuesday. A vigilant Transit Ambassador initially saw Delcidmontenegro on the train and recognised him right away from an informational flier, according to BART PD. Delcidmontenegro was arrested when cops successfully intercepted the train after swiftly sending out alerts. At least 29 sizable glass panels have been destroyed by vandals since the beginning of October.
These panels weren’t just decorative. As required by state law, they were an essential component of the canopies being built to protect the recently completed outdoor escalators at BART’s downtown stations. The damage has spread to popular stations like Powell Street, Montgomery, and Embarcadero, which support a large investment BART has been making to improve its passengers’ commutes. As it stands, it will likely cost more than $500,000 to replace the destroyed infrastructure.
Due to his claimed behaviour, Delcidmontenegro was arrested and taken to the San Francisco County Jail, where he is presently being held on five counts of felony vandalism.
