After suffering a humiliating 47-9 defeat to the Detroit Lions in Week 6, the Cowboys fell to a disappointing 3-3 record.
Their bye week did little to help in the NFC East race, as both the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles secured wins during that time.
In the broader NFC playoff landscape, the Cowboys are positioned at No. 10, trailing the Eagles (4-2) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-3), while the final wild-card spot is currently held by the Chicago Bears (4-2).
It’s clear that the Cowboys need to secure more victories if they hope to make it to the postseason for the fourth year in a row, starting with their game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.
Interestingly, the 49ers represent the simplest opponent the Cowboys will face in the next five weeks, given that they hold a 3-4 record and are the only team on the Cowboys’ schedule with a losing record. If the Cowboys were up against a fully healthy 49ers team, this Week 8 clash could resemble their struggle against the Lions.
As it stands, I have concerns about this matchup for the Cowboys, which is not solely due to their failure to win at home this season—though that certainly complicates matters.
