This week showcased the brilliance of Packers GM Brian Gutekunst as he successfully restructured the Green Bay Packers while other teams struggled.

On Sunday, Jordan Love overcame a couple of significant errors and, during a crucial two-minute drill, made the plays necessary to secure a win against the Texans. Meanwhile, former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers led the New York Jets to an early 15-6 lead against the Steelers, but they ultimately lost 37-15, with poor performance exacerbated by a crucial drop from star receiver Garrett Wilson.

Rodgers appeared to be a typical 40-year-old quarterback struggling to achieve what seems like an unreachable goal.

Additionally, the New Orleans Saints granted running back Alvin Kamara a two-year contract extension, which resulted in $18 million savings on the 2025 salary cap—an example of their usual cap management strategy involving a hefty signing bonus and void years.

Collectively, these developments marked a strong week for Gutekunst. Following the Houston game, Love expressed to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, “There’s definitely a lot of love within the offense, including receivers and tight ends.

We’re a young group that has worked hard to build chemistry and trust, and I’m optimistic about our potential for growth together.” He emphasized the depth and talent in the receiving and tight end positions.

Importantly, trading Rodgers allowed Gutekunst the opportunity to reset the team’s finances. Without the win-now pressure associated with Rodgers and veteran players, he can now begin anew.
