In their Premier League match at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, Man United and Chelsea tied 1-1 thanks to a penalty kick from Bruno Fernandes.

Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, has praised Noussair Mazraoui after the defender won player-of-the-match during their Premier League draw with Chelsea. Due to the lack of offensive threat from either team, the match at Old Trafford was mostly boring to watch. Marcus Rashford had the best opportunity in the first half, but his attempt at the back post was unsuccessful and instead struck the frame.

After goalie Robert Sanchez tripped Rasmus Hojlund, Fernandes handed United the lead from the penalty spot, enlivening the final 20 minutes of play. However, that advantage was short-lived for United as Moises Caicedo levelled with a spectacular volley after the defence was unable to adequately clear their lines.

Even if a point doesn’t make up for United’s terrible start to the season, a draw was ultimately possibly the most equitable outcome of the day. Mazraoui, who won player-of-the-match for his strong effort, was one player who left the game with some recognition.

The Moroccan’s influence to that outcome was promptly acknowledged by Fernandes, who posted the prize-giving image to his Instagram with the remark, “Class Noussair Mazraoui.” Mazraoui would be one of Erik ten Hag’s last transfers as United manager, even if we were unaware of this at the time.

After leading United to their worst-ever Premier League season start, Ten Hag was fired by the team last week. Since then, Ruud van Nistelrooy has been named interim manager, and on Monday, November 11, Ruben Amorim will assume the role of head coach.
