NRL star AJ Brimson deletes post showing big Cup win – and alleged rugby bet
The NRL has been alerted to a picture purportedly shared by Gold Coast player AJ Brimson that purports to show a wager on a rugby league match adjacent to a stake on the Melbourne Cup.
Though screenshots of the post have been making the rounds on social media, Brimson has removed the story from his Instagram account. The picture seems to show Brimson winning a $100 bet on Knights Choice, the Melbourne Cup winner, at $1010, for a $10,100 collect.
It is unclear whether the wager was placed on a rugby league game because it looks like there is another bet behind it that is concealed.
According to the game’s code of conduct, registered NRL players and other participants are not permitted to wager on rugby league matches.
The NRL has been made aware of the picture. The issue is not now being looked into by the regulating body. Tim Simona, a center with the West Tigers, was discovered to have placed bets on league games in 2017.
Simona was consequently deregistered by the NRL for a number of infractions, including wagering on opponent players to score against his side and against his team winning.
