Rangers Face League Cup Final Pressure as Celtic’s Trophy Record Looms
Rangers must give their all to win the Scottish League Cup and avoid falling behind Celtic in the all-time trophy standings.
According to The Daily Record on 4 November, this season’s first silverware opportunity for the Old Firm clubs gives Celtic the chance to surpass Rangers’ overall trophy tally for the first time in 86 years.
The two clubs have faced off for 136 years and are currently tied with 118 major trophies each, providing Rangers with extra motivation to beat their fierce rivals at Hampden next month.
A win for Rangers would not only see them defend their League Cup title but also send a strong message in the Premiership as they try to prevent Celtic from matching their 55-title count.
Rangers and Celtic Gear Up for Critical Weeks in Silverware Battle
Based on current form, even Rangers supporters may consider Celtic the heavy favorites to claim the League Cup in just over five weeks at Hampden.
Celtic remain unbeaten, having won 12 of their 13 domestic games this season, including a dominant 6-0 win over second-placed Aberdeen in the League Cup semi-final on 2 November.
The League Cup final between Rangers and Celtic will take place at Hampden Park on 15 December.
Another significant victory came when Celtic defeated Rangers 3-0 at Parkhead early in the season. After a come-from-behind win over Motherwell on 3 November, Celtic will look to maintain their strong form in the final.
At this point, Rangers are considered heavy underdogs to claim their 119th major trophy unless Celtic’s current momentum slows, but a win would be the ideal way for Rangers fans to see that happen.
While Rangers may be trailing in the title race after a loss to Aberdeen, two upcoming Old Firm games present them with the perfect chance to close the gap in Glasgow.
