NRL Star Dylan Brown Pleads Guilty to Non-Consensual Assault After Night of Heavy Drinking – Apologizes for ‘Severe Lapse in Judgment
In a recent court appearance at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court, Parramatta Eels star Dylan Brown admitted to two charges of non-consensual touching after an incident at the Golden Sheaf Hotel in Double Bay.
Brown, who reportedly consumed up to 20 alcoholic beverages that evening, pleaded guilty to touching a woman’s breasts without her consent, an action he has since described as a severe lapse in judgment for which he is “deeply sorry.”
The events unfolded on June 3, 2024, when Brown was socializing at the popular Sydney venue. As the night progressed, witnesses claimed he had been drinking heavily before engaging in the unwanted physical contact. The victim immediately reported the incident, which led to an investigation and subsequent charges against the player.
Brown’s court appearance resulted in him taking full responsibility, acknowledging the inappropriateness of his behavior, and issuing a public apology.
Following his arrest, Brown was subject to the NRL’s no-fault stand-down rule, preventing him from playing or participating in any team activities pending legal proceedings. Now that his court case has concluded, the rule no longer applies, but league officials have not yet confirmed when Brown will be officially permitted to return to the field.
The incident has sparked a broader conversation within the rugby league community about player behavior, alcohol consumption, and personal accountability. Many fans and league representatives are calling for stricter policies and education for players regarding conduct both on and off the field.
While Brown’s future remains uncertain, his case has underscored the importance of addressing issues related to respect, consent, and responsibility in professional sports.
