The NFC East is starting to resemble our weekly Groundhog Day update, with the Cowboys and Giants losing and Washington and Philadelphia winning. Their objectives for the 2024 season should be aimed in opposing directions as the gap between the division rivals widens. Two races are now underway. With only two losses apiece, the Commanders and Eagles will compete for the division title through January. The Giants are aiming for their 2025 Draft pick, while the Cowboys are rapidly catching up to them in a mutual decline following yet another defeat and a multi-game injury to quarterback Dak Prescott.

NFC East Standings as of right now

This week, the Cowboys—or what’s left of them—will meet the Eagles at home in a division matchup. A game where Philly should have been the clear favourite is now more likely to be a landslide because to Cooper Rush starting in place of Prescott.

Recall that Rush’s winning streak was ended by the Eagles in 2022, prior to the hiring of Kellen Moore. Moore, who was Rush’s coach and teammate from 2017 to 2022, will be able to provide Philadelphia with even more information about his methods and areas of opportunity. Rush’s 5-1 record as an NFL starter is mostly due to the fact that backup quarterbacks can surprise teams by having less footage to work with. However, he will have a fantastic opportunity to improve his record against the same squad that denied him that one.

The Commanders’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers this week might put the Eagles atop the NFC East. Since being selected as a starter, Russell Wilson has resembled the Seattle version more, and Pittsburgh has won three straight games. After narrowly defeating the Bears and Giants in recent weeks, Washington has recently appeared vulnerable. The Commanders have a crucial week to either maintain the enchantment or risk their season losing its uniqueness.
