Joe Mazzulla’s attention is drawn to the Celtics guard’s breakout season.

Payton Pritchard, the guard for the Boston Celtics, expressed his disappointment with the energy he contributed on both sides of the court during Tuesday’s defeat by the Atlanta Hawks.

For Pritchard, that was not the case a day later. The Celtics easily defeated the Nets 139-114 at Barclays Center on Wednesday night in Brooklyn, capping up Pritchard’s incredible season.

Pritchard finished with 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting in 36 minutes off the bench, making five of his few 3-pointers as he normally does, but his influence on the field extended much beyond that. In addition, the fifth-year guard recorded two steals, eight assists, six rebounds, and even a block.

Joe Mazzulla has taken notice of the outstanding performance, not just against the Nets but throughout the entire season, and with good reason. According to NBC Sports Boston’s postgame coverage, Mazzulla told reporters, “Again, two-way player.” He had some deflections, some steals, and ball pressure.

Additionally, he can play off the ball and handle pick-and-roll, and guys are doing a fantastic job of locating him. He is currently playing for us at an extremely high level. It’s entertaining to watch.
