BYU Football: Brayden Keim Sidelined Due to Injury
PROVO, Utah – BYU’s starting offensive tackle, Brayden Keim, will not play in this week’s matchup against Kansas.
The senior suffered an injury in the fourth quarter of BYU’s narrow victory over Utah last Saturday.
Keim managed to walk to the locker room with some difficulty following the 22-21 rivalry win. However, this week he has been spotted at practice using a scooter and wearing a boot.
“…I think [Keim] got rolled up on during a sack situation. He’s been outstanding for us,” said BYU head coach Kalani Sitake earlier this week.
BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick also confirmed Keim’s absence.
“Brayden will be out for a bit,” Roderick stated.
The sixth-year offensive coordinator indicated that Keim would likely miss the rest of the regular season.
Brayden Keim Expected Back for Postseason “We’re hoping to have him return for the postseason,” Roderick added.
Keim has been a key starter in all nine games this season at right tackle for BYU.
The 6-foot-9, 315-pound athlete joined BYU as a walk-on tight end from Alta High School. After considering an NFL move post-last season, Keim chose to return and has excelled, contributing to BYU’s impressive 9-0 start.
Isaiah Jatta to Replace Keim Colorado transfer Isaiah Jatta will take Keim’s place on the line.
Jatta, standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 320 pounds, joined BYU last spring and filled in for Keim during the Utah game.
“Jatta will start [against Kansas],” Roderick confirmed. “He came in during [the Utah] game and performed well. He even made a critical block in that speed option play you mentioned. He executed that block and played well overall.”
Although Keim is out, BYU will regain one of their key offensive linemen, Connor Pay, from injury.
Pay, the center and team captain, has been out since the Baylor game in September due to a foot injury.
“Connor is going to play,” said Roderick. “He’s ready to go.”
