“We Had to Get That One Back”: Lions’ Jahmyr Gibbs Reflects on Dominating Cowboys and Eyes Super Bowl Glory
The Detroit Lions’ 47-9 dismantling of the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6 sent a loud message to the league. For former All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, it was a performance so dominant he jokingly questioned its legality on his podcast.
“What y’all did to Dallas, I thought about calling the police at one point,” Sherman told Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs. “I couldn’t figure out exactly what the crime was, but it was criminal.”
Playing With a Purpose
Gibbs confirmed the Lions came into the game fueled by revenge, still stung from last year’s road loss to Dallas, which ended in controversy.
“Whoever thought that was right,” Gibbs said. “We had to get that one back.”
With a blowout victory behind them, the Lions are already looking ahead to another revenge game—this time against the San Francisco 49ers, who dashed Detroit’s Super Bowl dreams with a comeback win in last year’s NFC Championship Game.
A Season to Remember
Jahmyr Gibbs is having a breakout year in his sophomore campaign, already amassing 727 rushing yards through nine games. After narrowly missing 1,000 yards last season, the Pro Bowler is poised to smash that mark this year as Detroit holds a commanding 8-1 record.
The offense’s success has been driven by coordinator Ben Johnson, who Gibbs praised as a mastermind:
“Ben, he’s a guru, bro. I ain’t seen nothing like it. Everybody gets the ball… Really special for the team that he came back. The chemistry was all there.”
Gibbs and Lions fans alike are hoping Johnson will resist head coaching offers for another offseason.
Eyes on the Ultimate Prize
For Detroit, a franchise long defined by futility, this season represents a chance to rewrite history. The Lions have never won a Super Bowl, but Gibbs believes this team is different.
“It’s cool being a part of something that’s changing the community, changing the whole organization,” he said. “They’re not used to this type of winning… Once we get that parade, we know it’s gonna be jumping.”
With a motivated roster, elite coaching, and a city rallying behind them, the Lions are poised to make their Super Bowl dreams a reality—and Gibbs is leading the charge.
