Draymond Green, a forward for the Golden State Warriors, once again became embroiled in controversy during the team’s 123-118 win against the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Cup on Friday.
Amidst intense on-court tension and questionable calls, Green’s actions and subsequent ejection overshadowed the hard-earned victory.
A Controversial Incident
The most debated moment occurred in the third quarter with 7:06 left on the clock when Green tripped rookie center Zach Edey by hooking his foot while chasing a loose ball. This incident, shared on social media by CJ Fogler, drew strong reactions from both the Grizzlies and their head coach, Taylor Jenkins.
Jenkins expressed his disappointment postgame, stating, “It was very disappointing that that play wasn’t reviewed.
We were ready to initiate a fast break, and Draymond pulled his leg, yet it went unnoticed. I can’t understand how that wasn’t looked at.”
Edey shared his coach’s frustration, remarking that Green’s actions were “definitely not a basketball play.”
Green’s Ejection After Rising Tensions
As the game progressed, tensions erupted when Green was assessed two technical fouls in just 33 seconds.
He began by contesting a call with the referees and continued to argue from the bench, leading to his ejection after receiving a second technical foul.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged that Green’s conduct was out of line, noting, “Whether it was intentional or not, Green’s play was dirty.”
