Chase Roberts Shares Practice Issues That Led to BYU’s Loss to Kansas
BYU football suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday night, falling at home to Kansas. BYU wide receiver Chase Roberts indicated that the loss was not a surprise to the team.
“We can’t score in the red zone,” Roberts shared with ESPN. “I think we had some struggles in practice this week in the red zone, and it carried over into the game. You have to be focused and ready when playing a strong team like Kansas.”
Kansas sealed the win with a fourth-quarter touchdown, beating the Cougars 17-13. This result added another twist to the unpredictable Big 12 conference this season.
Despite the setback, BYU still has a shot at the Big 12 title game, holding a 9-1 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the conference, which ties them for first place with Colorado.

This season, the Big 12 has proven to be highly unpredictable, and that continued Saturday as BYU fell at home to a 4-6 Kansas team. This defeat is significant not only for the Cougars but also for the conference’s reputation.
“They had a solid game plan,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake commented. “Looking at the stats, we didn’t make enough plays and committed too many mistakes to win.”
Despite this loss, BYU is still positioned to reach the conference title game. However, to have a chance at the College Football Playoff, they may need to win the Big 12. The chances of the conference sending two teams to the CFP are slim due to accumulated losses.

“I feel like our team has always been good at staying on course,” Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels said. “A key part of our program is trusting the process.”
BYU cannot afford another loss if they hope to secure a spot in the conference title game. Their next challenge is a tough matchup against Arizona State on Saturday.
