NSW given slight edge as Origin fixtures revealed

State of Origin will return to Perth next year, with the full schedule revealed for both the men’s and women’s series in 2025.

The NRL announced the fixtures on Monday morning, with the men’s series to kick off at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday, May 28.

For the first time in almost two decades, NSW won the decider in Brisbane as star halfback Mitchell Moses put the icing on the cake with a brilliant display.

From there, the series will head west to Optus Stadium on June 18, before a potential decider at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on July 9.

NSW Blues players celebrate after lifting the shield as winners of the 2024 State of Origin series.

NSW have never lost against the Maroons in Perth.

While they will be the defending champions, the Blues are still on the hunt for a new coach after Michael Maguire’s decision to quit the role and join the Broncos.

The women’s series will again kick off as part of Magic Round next year on May 1, before two games held down south in Sydney and Newcastle.

“The 2024 State of Origin Series was one for the ages,” Andrew Abdo said.

“An intense and exciting series for both the men and women plus a showcase of emerging young talent in the Under 19s Origin matches.

Isabelle Kelly and Kezie Apps of the Blues

“The greatest rivalry in Australian sport returns to Brisbane, Perth and Sydney for the men’s series and the Sunshine Coast for the first time for the exciting U19s matches.

“2024 was a landmark year for Women’s State of Origin, with record crowds and television audiences. It was a gripping contest to mark the first ever three-game series.”
