The Hawks lost badly to the Warriors after a costly first quarter.

The Atlanta Hawks lost to the Warriors 120-97 on Wednesday night, continuing their Western Conference road trip, but failing to beat a formidable Golden State team. With 15 points and 14 rebounds, Jalen Johnson led the Hawks in scoring, and Trae Young finished with 12 points and 11 assists.

Steph Curry added 23 points to Andrew Wiggins’ 27 points for the Warriors. Essentially, the first quarter determined the outcome of the game.

The Hawks were initially keeping up with the Warriors, but as the quarter came to an end, the Hawks’ offense slowed while the Warriors, regardless of the rotation that was taking the court, didn’t miss a beat. What transpired over the first quarter’s last five minutes.

I believe that the events of the last five minutes of the first quarter serve as a good microcosm for a number of elements in this game, including turnovers, Golden State’s defense, missed but solid shots, and terrible shots that barely missed.
