Christian Horner Responds to 2026 Rumors: “We’re Not Covering the Cost”

“We’re Not Paying for It” – Christian Horner Reacts to Rumors of 11th F1 Team in 2026

Christian Horner has addressed rumors of an 11th Formula 1 team potentially joining the grid in 2026, expressing openness to the idea but emphasizing financial considerations.

Reports surfaced on Friday suggesting that Andretti’s bid to join F1, previously rejected until at least 2028, may gain approval soon. Andretti’s entry is contingent on backing from a major original equipment manufacturer (OEM) like General Motors. Progress appears to have been made, coinciding with a reshuffle in Andretti’s management, which has seen Michael Andretti take a step back from a prominent role.

Speaking with Sky Sports in Las Vegas, Horner shared his thoughts on the speculation. “There are loads of rumors, but no one has approached us directly about it,” Horner said. “An American team would be a positive addition. We already have Haas, but having a big OEM like GM enter could be exciting, especially with a Ford versus GM dynamic. However, this isn’t up to the teams—it’s a matter for the FIA and the commercial rights holder, and it all comes down to finances and funding.”

Horner also raised concerns about the logistical challenges of adding another team, pointing out that some circuits are already stretched for space.

He was adamant, however, that Red Bull should not bear any financial burden from the inclusion of an additional team. “Logistically, as long as it can be managed, we’d have no problem with GM joining. But we’re not paying for it!” Horner added. “At circuits like Zandvoort, for instance, how would it work?

“While we’d welcome them with open arms, the question remains about the prize fund. Who takes the financial hit? Likely, it’ll come out of everyone’s share.”
