With two crucial players sidelined, the San Francisco 49ers will meet the Green Bay Packers with one hand tied behind their back. The 49ers will be without quarterback Brock Purdy and defensive end Nick Bosa at a vital juncture in their season. Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, revealed that Purdy and Bosa would miss Sunday’s game due to shoulder injuries and hip issues, respectively.

The Niners also ruled out a few other important players, including CB Charvarius Ward and WR Jacob Cowing. When asked about Purdy specifically, Shanahan stated that he has no long-term concerns concerning his quarterback.

“I do not want to imply there is a long-term concern. We had the MRI on Monday. We assumed he just needed some relaxation and weren’t worried about him not performing well this week. But when he began up on Thursday, it astonished him and us how it felt. “So we had to shut him down,” Shanahan stated on November 22. So, I’m not sure what to think of it. The MRI doesn’t look like that, so everything should be fine. But given how it performed this week, it’s really up in the air for next week, so we’ll see on Monday.”

Brandon Allen is scheduled to begin.

The 49ers will start experienced backup Brandon Allen in Purdy’s place. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Allen in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, marking Allen’s NFL debut. Allen has since moved between teams and practice squads during his NFL career. Although it has been a while since his last start in 2021 with the Cincinnati Bengals, Allen does have some starting experience. Allen started six games for the AFC North team during his three seasons in Cincinnati.

Totalling 1074 throwing yards, 7 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions, the former Arkansas Razorback finished 1-5. His career’s longest stretch of five starts was in 2021, but it’s obvious that the opportunity did not translate into further starting opportunities.

The seasoned veteran is now receiving another chance. But he has a difficult task ahead of him when he plays the Packers on the road.

49ers QB Speaks on Packers Game

On November 22, the 49ers made Allen available for a press conference following Shanahan’s decision to start him. When Allen learnt he would start, he was questioned about the 49ers’ schedule.

Actually, today. I am aware that he spent the entire week planning for his shoulder. On Wednesday, he intended to give it some rest. He was going to take a short break, so I believe we split up the reps there on Wednesday. Allen remarked, “I believe the plan was to come out and practise on Thursday, but I guess just in warmups, I wasn’t feeling right.”

Allen couldn’t help but acknowledge that he is thrilled about the opportunity, even if the Niners veteran obviously doesn’t want Purdy to get hurt. Yes, there is a chance. Although the situation is what it is, I believe that throughout the year, our squad has been coping with sporadic injuries and has adopted a strong next-man-up mindset. Thus, it’s undoubtedly a chance for me to perform well and provide our team a strong chance to win.
