Former Penrith Panthers legend Mark Geyer has received an outpouring of support following his unexpected departure from Triple M’s breakfast program. Geyer, who co-hosted the popular Mick & MG in the Morning show, was abruptly replaced by ex-NRL players Aaron Woods and Beau Ryan, alongside newsreader Natarsha Belling.

Sydney businessman and longtime Geyer supporter Lou Zivanovic described the decision as a major blow for the 56-year-old, who has been a staple at the station for 17 years.

“MG is one of the most loyal people you could meet, and Triple M has shown him zero loyalty in return,” Zivanovic told Yahoo Sport Australia. “He was blindsided by the decision and is understandably devastated.”

Fans Rally Behind Geyer

A petition demanding Geyer’s reinstatement has gained traction, with many fans and western Sydney locals expressing their discontent. Known for being a voice for his community, Geyer has yet to comment publicly on his axing but is reportedly leaning on family and friends to rebuild his career.

Zivanovic, who recently caught up with Geyer, remains confident he will bounce back:

“MG showed during his footy career that you get knocked down and you get up again. One door closes, another opens.”

Aaron Woods Acknowledges Geyer’s Influence

Aaron Woods, one of Geyer’s replacements, shared his gratitude for the support Geyer provided during his playing career.

“MG helped me so much,” Woods said. “He just told me to never stop doing what I was doing… He was the first person I texted this morning.”

Divided Reaction to New Lineup

While Triple M thanked Geyer for his “incredible 17-year contribution,” the decision to replace him has been divisive. Fans have voiced skepticism over the chemistry of the new lineup featuring Ryan and Woods, suggesting Geyer’s authenticity and connection with listeners will be hard to replicate.

Southern Cross Audio hinted that Geyer might return in the future, but for now, the former footy star is left navigating a challenging chapter.
