The BYU Cougars suffered their first loss of the season, falling to No. 23 Ole Miss 96-85 in overtime at the Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego.
Ole Miss guard Jaylen Murray scored a career-high 28 points, leading the Rebels to victory. BYU struggled in overtime, shooting 2-of-11 from the field.
The Cougars had five players score in double figures, led by Kanon Catchings with 17 points. Egor Demin, Fousseyni Traore, and Richie Saunders each added 16 points, while Mihailo Boskovic scored 10.
BYU committed 17 turnovers, resulting in 23 Ole Miss points. The Rebels outscored BYU by 10 points off turnovers.
First Half
The game was closely contested in the first half, with BYU leading 42-39 at halftime. Richie Saunders led the Cougars with 13 points, followed by Kanon Catchings with 12.
Second Half
In the second half, BYU struggled to maintain their lead. Ole Miss tied the game with 2:21 remaining, and the game eventually went into overtime.
Overtime
In overtime, Ole Miss took control, shooting 13-13 from the free-throw line. BYU’s Kanon Catchings hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 83-81, but the Rebels held on for the win.
