ToThe Chicago Bears named former Georgia Bulldogs running back Thomas Brown as temporary head coach for the rest of the season. Brown’s elevation occurred after the Bears sacked head coach Matt Eberflus on Friday. Eberflus’ tenure ended after two and a half years with a 14-32 record. Eberflus was fired following a six-game losing skid and a 23-20 loss to the Detroit Lions, during which Eberflus mishandled the clock in field goal range, potentially tying the game.

Thomas Brown is in his first head coaching post. He will take over a Bears club that has lost multiple tight games, while having a great offence lead by Caleb Williams, the first overall choice in the 2024 NFL draft. The Bears also boast a superb defence that allows the ninth-lowest points per game in the NFL.

Brown has had a remarkable turnaround since being named the Bears’ offensive coordinator less than two weeks ago, following the departure of Shane Waldron. Brown previously worked as a play-calling offensive coordinator for the 2023 Carolina Panthers, who finished 2-15. Brown also worked as an offensive assistant for the Los Angeles Rams, under Sean McVay. The highly recognised coach will get his first chance as a head coach, even if it is only on an interim basis.
