As the Commanders’ offence, led by quarterback Jayden Daniels, has emerged from years of stagnation to become one of the league’s top offences, Kingsbury’s return to the NFL has gone extremely well. Kingsbury worked closely with Caleb Williams, the starting quarterback for the Bears, while he was a member of the USC staff last season. According to NFL Network, there may be plans for a reunion once the season concludes. After a five-game losing streak and a strong start to the season, the Bears are now 4-8. With Williams joining the team and being considered one of the top quarterback prospects of his generation, Chicago had extremely high expectations this season. He will now be required to learn a second NFL offence in a short period of time.
Prior to his ten-month tenure at USC, Kingsbury was an NFL head coach from 2019 to 2022 with the Arizona Cardinals. It was not anticipated that he would be offered another head coaching position so quickly after his second stint in the NFL. Nonetheless, the Commanders’ turnaround has drawn attention from all over the NFL due to how far ahead of schedule the team is in its growth, and it’s clear that Daniels and Williams are comparable. During Patrick Mahomes’ whole collegiate career, Kingsbury was the head coach of Texas Tech, where the Red Raiders offence operated flawlessly. The team’s defence was far from perfect. His tenure at Arizona, where he had duties on both sides of the ball, was similar.
If Kingsbury were to pursue the Bears’ offer, he probably wouldn’t quit his position with Washington until the end of the season.
