Michigan Football Faces Unforeseen Blow After Ohio State Upset
The unranked Michigan Wolverines secured a monumental 13-10 victory over the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus this past Saturday, marking their fourth consecutive win in the storied rivalry. This season-closing triumph over the arch-nemesis Buckeyes was a rare highlight in an otherwise underwhelming 2024 campaign for the reigning national champions. Under first-year head coach Sherrone Moore, the Wolverines concluded the regular season with a 7-5 record.
On Tuesday, the Michigan football program encountered an unforeseen setback. Starting wide receiver Tyler Morris is reportedly entering the transfer portal. Morris was a vital contributor to the 2023 Wolverines team that went undefeated and captured a College Football Playoff National Championship. He memorably scored on a 38-yard receiving touchdown in Michigan’s Rose Bowl victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide.
This season, Morris emerged as the leader in the Wolverines’ wide receiver corps, accumulating 23 catches for 248 yards and two touchdowns. He had just one catch for 14 yards in Saturday’s win over the Buckeyes. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore celebrates the Wolverines’ 13-10 win in Columbus.
Although Michigan is no longer in contention for the College Football Playoff, the program will receive a 2024 bowl game invitation. However, it appears Morris will be unavailable for that postseason contest. The Wolverines have three wide receivers committed to joining their 2025 recruiting class, including four-star WR Andrew Marsh.
