Former Yankees Pitcher Who Shed 20 Pounds Surprised by Free Agency Interest

Lance Lynn has undergone a significant transformation this offseason as he gears up for his 15th MLB season.

The 6-foot-5 pitcher revealed to The Athletic that he has dropped 20 pounds, reducing his weight from 280 to 260.

“The older you get, the more you learn,” Lynn said. “Looking at my knees and lower body, with my age and build, losing weight had to be my top priority right from the start.”

Lynn pitched for the Cardinals in 2024 during his second stint with the team. However, St. Louis declined his $11 million option after the season, despite his 3.84 ERA over 117 1/3 innings.

“I realized I wasn’t ready to retire,” Lynn said. “If I’m going to keep playing, I need to make changes to stay healthy and perform. This is another adjustment as I prepare for what could be the final phase of my career in my late 30s.”

Lynn has made similar adjustments throughout his career, noting that he’s reinvented his approach every five to six years.

The Yankees traded for Lynn from the Minnesota Twins before the 2018 trade deadline. He made 11 appearances for New York, posting a 3-2 record with a 4.14 ERA. After that season, he signed a three-year deal with the Texas Rangers, eventually landing with the White Sox.
