Jared Goff is setting the record straight about a recent report claiming he influenced Dan Campbell’s gutsy fourth-and-1 decision during the Lions’ thrilling 34-31 win over the Green Bay Packers. The buzz started when former NFL star Richard Sherman discussed the moment on his podcast, suggesting Goff’s enthusiasm played a big role in the call. But according to Goff, that’s not how it went down.

On Sherman’s podcast, the analyst shared an exchange that made it sound like Goff swayed Campbell. Sherman described how Campbell originally planned to kick a field goal but changed course after seeing Goff’s eagerness to go for it. “Jared basically says, ‘Man, man! I want to go.’ And Dan Campbell looks at him and says, ‘You want to do it? [Expletive] it, we’re going for it,’” Sherman recalled.

The story quickly took off, but Goff has since clarified that he wasn’t trying to convince his coach of anything. Speaking on a radio show, Goff explained, “I think someone said I convinced him, but no, I didn’t do any convincing. That’s all Dan. I walked over, asked about the plan, and he told us we were going for it. It had nothing to do with me.”

Goff gave full credit to Campbell’s leadership and decision-making, highlighting his coach’s ability to make bold calls under pressure. While the exchange might make for a fun story, Goff insists the moment was a testament to Campbell’s confidence, not his own influence.

Either way, the Lions’ aggressive move worked, helping them secure yet another win in their remarkable 12-1 season.
