CLARKSTON, Mich. (WXYZ) — Thanks to his big heart, one of the youngest Lions fans in metro Detroit will have a great time this weekend.

Mason Bonds, a third-grader at Pine Knob Elementary School, contributed almost 400 items to a food drive held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Clarkston. Mason remarked, “I felt like I did something very good.”

Over 6,000 pounds of food were contributed by the entire school, of which he was the biggest giver. After winning a random drawing, he was able to get free tickets to this Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field. He claimed to have accomplished this by gathering used pop cans from people and converting them into cash. He used that money to by food for the pantry. “So, that helped so much because it’s a lot of cans,” Mason said.

He told us that his favourite player, Jahmyr Gibbs, had inspired him to do excellent. “He’s one of my favourites, he’s good and he didn’t have a lot of money at first and then, we love helping the people in need, so we helped the other people in need and that’s just like helping Gibbs,” Mason said me. The can drive coordinator, Katrina Rivenburg, stated that it is children like Mason that genuinely make a difference.

This little Lions fan is getting ready for the big game, but he believes his act of goodwill means much more than just some tickets.

“Winning would be awesome, but we can also help those in need,” Mason remarked.
