Clarkston Third Grader’s Generosity Leads to Free Lions Tickets

In a heartwarming story out of Clarkston, Michigan, Pine Knob Elementary School third grader Mason Bonds is showing that big hearts come in small packages. Mason donated more than 400 items to a food drive organized by Calvary Lutheran Church, making him the largest single contributor in his school’s effort, which collectively raised over 6,000 pounds of food.

For his remarkable generosity, Mason won a random drawing for free tickets to this Sunday’s Detroit Lions game against the Buffalo Bills at Ford Field.

How He Made It Happen

Mason got creative, collecting old pop cans and turning them into cash. He used the money to buy food for the church pantry.

“It felt like I did something very good,” Mason said.

Mason’s efforts were inspired by his favorite Lions player, Jahmyr Gibbs.

“He’s one of my favorites… he didn’t have a lot of money at first, and we love helping people in need, so we helped others just like helping Gibbs,” Mason shared.

A Community Effort

The food drive coordinator, Katrina Rivenburg, praised Mason’s contributions and noted the immediate impact:

“From this, they’re already putting together so many boxes for families, so it’s not just sitting on the shelves, which brings me so much joy walking in here.”

Mason’s efforts, along with those of his schoolmates, exceeded expectations, demonstrating the power of community and compassion.

A Win Beyond Football

While Mason is excited to cheer on the Lions, he’s clear about what truly matters:

“That’d be cool to win, but we can help the people in need too.”

Mason’s act of kindness is a reminder that giving back can create a ripple effect of goodwill, just in time for the holiday season. Keep an eye out for this young Lions fan at the game, where he’ll surely be rooting for his team with the same enthusiasm he’s shown for helping others.
