For Sunday’s game against the host Denver Broncos, the Indianapolis Colts downgraded rookie linebacker Jaylon Carlies and four-time All-Pro centre Ryan Kelly from questionable to out. On Saturday, defensive end Tyquan Lewis (rib) was also added to the Colts’ injury report; his status was labelled as questionable. For the game against Denver (8-5), Indianapolis (6-7) moved guard Mark Glowinski from the practice squad to the active roster and placed offensive tackle Braden Smith on the reserve/non-football illness list. On Wednesday, the Colts opened the 21-day practice window for Carlies, who was placed on injured reserve due to a fibula injury and a shoulder problem, and Kelly, who was placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury on November 6.
Throughout the week, Carlies gave her all during practice, but Kelly’s participation was restricted. Both can be activated at any time within the three weeks that are allocated. The 31-year-old Kelly has started all 121 of his regular-season and postseason games in his nine-year career with the Colts, who selected him with the 18th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Alabama. In addition to being named to the Pro Bowl in 2019–21 and 2023, Kelly was chosen for the second team All-Pro in 2020.
Since being chosen out of Missouri in the fifth round of the 2024 draft, Carlies, 23, has made seven appearances (three starts) and recorded 21 tackles and one sack. Smith, 28, had already been ruled out and missed all of practice due to a personal issue. Since the Colts took him out of Auburn in the second round of the 2018 draft, he has started 92 of 94 games, including 12 this season. This season, Glowinski, 32, participated in and started one game at right guard, a 25–24 victory over New England on December 1. Over ten seasons, he has appeared in 125 games (97 starts) with the Colts (2018–21, 2024), New York Giants (2022-23), and Seattle Seahawks (2015–17).
