Michigan football made waves by securing a commitment from Bryce Underwood, the nation’s No. 1 quarterback prospect from Belleville High School.

Expected to enroll early, Underwood is poised to play a significant role for the Wolverines in the 2025 season. However, Michigan’s quarterback plans may not be as clear-cut as they appear.

Despite Underwood’s lofty status, head coach Sherrone Moore might seek a seasoned quarterback to provide competition and help ease the transition.

According to On3 Sports analysts Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos, Michigan is targeting former Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr., who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Thursday.

Although Edwards lacks the same level of recognition as other portal quarterbacks, he offers Michigan a promising option.

At 6-foot-3 with a strong arm and impressive athleticism, Edwards could fit seamlessly into Chip Lindsey’s offense.

His experience would add depth and stability to the quarterback room, allowing Underwood additional time to develop before taking over completely.

This move could prove pivotal for Michigan, balancing the program’s immediate competitiveness with its long-term plans at quarter back.
