After losing to the Buffalo Bills at home on Sunday, the Detroit Lions now have a 12-2 record. They are also severely hampered by the fact that top running back David Montgomery has suffered a knee injury that will keep him out of action for the season. Insider Peter King, however, thinks this squad still has the offensive firepower to accomplish their goals from the start of the season.
“Detroit will score 30, 35, and 38 points nearly every Sunday.”King stated Wednesday morning via Let’s Go, “I’m not all that down on the Lions right now.”
Even without Montgomery, Detroit’s offence is perhaps the most explosive in the league. Not nearly enough attention has been paid to the performance of Pro Bowl quarterback Jared Goff, who passed for a staggering 494 yards and five touchdowns in last week’s loss.
With three games remaining in the season, Jahmyr Gibbs, a Pro Bowl running back, has 1,442 scrimmage yards and 14 total touchdowns, making him one of the league’s most dangerous running backs. Amon-Ra St. Brown, an All-Pro wide receiver, is about to have his third straight season with 100 catches and 1,000 yards. In football, the offensive line is also one of the strongest units.
Head coach Dan Campbell has created a winning and aggressive culture in the Motor City, despite the Lions’ recent poor performance. This team is hungry for a championship, therefore a few injuries won’t stop them from believing in themselves and their goals.
