— Graham Glasgow, the starting offensive guard for the Detroit Lions, will not play against the Chicago Bears in Week 16. Glasgow had been coping with a knee ailment sustained during the Buffalo Bills game last week. In order to give depth to the interior offensive line, the Lions have rookie Christian Mahogany, Kayode Awosika, and Michael Niese active.
Mahogany appears to be promoted ahead of Awosika in the rotation after being active for a few weeks in a row. In the event that Glasgow were unable to play, Dan Campbell stated he was comfortable starting Mahogany, Awosika, or even Niese.
“Comfortable,” stated the head coach of the Lions. “We’re working both sides and with He and (Awosika) Yode on both of those, and Niese has also done some right guard work for us.” Along with Glasgow, the Lions also placed offensive linemen Colby Sorsdal and Giovanni Manu, defensive linemen Brodric Martin and Jonah Williams, running back David Montgomery, and linebacker Kwon Alexander on inactive leave.
The team is still keeping an eye on Montgomery’s knee issue in preparation for the postseason, so he was not placed on injured reserve over the weekend. With Anthony Pittman returning to the Lions this week and Trevor Nowaske returning to action, Alexander was the linebacker removed from the rotation. After making his season debut last month against the Indianapolis Colts, veteran cornerback Emmanuel Moseley is playing for the first time. Over the past two years, Moseley has recovered from two ACL tears as well as a pectoral muscle tear.
Moseley, Amik Robertson, and Kindle Vildor are probably in line for bigger roles because the Lions will not be using cornerbacks Carlton Davis III and Khalil Dorsey going forward. Additionally, Ifeatu Melifonwu is now active following this week’s activation off injured reserve. Jamal Adams was not promoted, and Melifonwu is still active. Regarding Moseley, Campbell told MLive on Friday, “Good, this is the best week he’s had since he’s come back from the injury.” “I think it’s been two great days for him, and he looks so much more at ease and is moving around well.”
