Jason Williamson was inspired to go above and beyond after witnessing a Detroit Lions fan bravely wear a cheese grater to the Week 9 game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. One could say he succeeded in his goal.
The 57-year-old Portland, Michigan man made bear trap caps for himself, his son, and his two friends, Alec and Jordan, who joined them for Sunday’s game, knowing that he and his son, Derrick, would be at the Week 16 Lions-Bears game at Soldier Field.
We needed a few hours to complete it. When asked about the creative process, Williamson told MLive, “Maybe an hour and a half each.” I said, “You know what, we’re going to the Bears game,” as soon as the cheese grater one was out. I am able to create a bear trap. Williamson claimed that the concept for the hats came to him fast and that they were built of playmat foam. As they made the hats while watching football games, it turned into a delightful time for him to spend with his kid.
Williamson, a 53-year Lions supporter, said he had never seen the Lions play at Soldier Field before Sunday’s game. He revealed that their journey was simple: they drove to Michigan City and then rode the train into Chicago. Williamson, like most Lions supporters, worries about the team’s chances of winning the Super Bowl because of the defensive line’s numerous ailments. He still seems to be among the “real ones,” though, that Lions offensive lineman Penei Sewell mentioned earlier this week. He still has faith in the team.
“I believe they will succeed. They will win tonight and next week, in my opinion,” Williamson stated. “Minnesota will be difficult, but I believe we can win, and we’ll have a week to recover.” Thus, I’m looking forward to that one.
