Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff showed his appreciation for his offensive line in a unique way this holiday season.
While some athletes go big with extravagant gifts, Goff opted for a practical yet thoughtful gesture.
He gave his linemen YETI cooler care packages filled with premium Wagyu beef.
“It’s tough to compete with guys giving out Toyota trucks,” Goff said, referencing San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who recently gifted his offensive line a fleet of new vehicles.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley also made headlines by giving their linemen golf carts.
Goff’s holiday gift wasn’t his first thoughtful gesture.
Last year, he teamed up with jeweler Jared to give his offensive linemen Breitling Super Chronomat watches valued at $11,000 each.
The watches came in a customized box with an inscription: “Every second of this year was timeless.
Thank you for a historic season and bringing gridiron glory back to Detroit.”
This year’s gift of YETI packages and Wagyu beef was well-received. Veteran offensive lineman Kevin Zeiexpressed enthusiasm, saying, “Sign me up,” when asked about the present.
The Lions’ offensive line has been critical to the team’s success.
Despite dealing with injuries, the starting group of Taylor Decker, Kevin Zeitler, Frank Ragnow, Graham Glasgow, and Penei Sewell remains one of the NFL’s best. The unit averages 4.6 yards per rush attempt, ranking 10th in the league.
Goff has been sacked just 27 times in 472 passing attempts, putting the Lions in the better half of the NFL for quarterback protection.
According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Detroit’s offensive line ranks 15th in pass protection and third in run blocking.
ESPN analytics are even more optimistic, placing the Lions 10th in pass-block win rate. Individual standouts include Sewell, ranked fourth among offensive tackles, and Ragnow, ranked third among centers by PFF.
Goff praised his offensive line for their toughness and resilience, noting how fortunate he feels to play behind such a talented group.
“A lot of guys around the league are taking big hits. I’m not one of them, and that’s thanks to them,” he said.
The Lions’ offensive line remains the team’s foundation, ensuring Goff has the protection he needs to perform at a high level.
Goff’s gift was a heartfelt way to recognize their contributions both on and off the field, emphasizing the camaraderie and respect within the team.
