Amik Robertson’s Journey to the Detroit Lions: A Decision from the Heart

When Amik Robertson became a free agent last March, the decision of where to sign wasn’t just about money—it was about fit and passion. Despite receiving a more lucrative offer from the San Francisco 49ers, Robertson chose the Detroit Lions, signing a two-year, $9.5 million deal on the second day of free agency.

Reflecting on his decision, Robertson shared that his heart was set on Detroit. “When I watched this team play, the style that Dan Campbell plays with—the don’t-give-a-(expletive) attitude—I fit in perfect,” Robertson explained. He waited out other offers, knowing the Lions were the right team for him.

Initially playing in the slot for Detroit, Robertson has since transitioned to an outside cornerback role, stepping up after Carlton Davis was sidelined. In Week 16 against the Chicago Bears, Robertson shone, playing 63 snaps and racking up eight tackles with two pass breakups.

The Lions’ culture and coaching philosophy clearly resonated with Robertson, and his decision to join Detroit has paid dividends both for him and the team. As they prepare for their pivotal NFC Championship Game rematch against the 49ers, Robertson’s story is a testament to the Lions’ growing appeal under Campbell’s leadership
