Dr. Ginger Gilmore, a long-time member of the Alabama athletic training staff, will retire at the conclusion of the 2024 college football season, the program said Monday. In January 1996, Gilmore became a member of the Crimson Tide’s staff. She is known for having contributed to the development of the Alabama athletic department’s behavioural health program, which is currently regarded as one of the best in the nation.

Her primary responsibility was to provide athletes in all Alabama athletic programs with mental and behavioural health resources. For many years, she had a close relationship with the football program. The Crimson Tide’s Assistant Athletic Director of Behavioural Health and Wellness was Dr. Gilmore’s formal title.

After years of dedication, care, and unwavering commitment to our team, we celebrate the retirement of Dr. Gilmore!

Thank you for keeping our players strong, healthy, and ready for every challenge. You’ll always be a part of the Crimson Tide family

Gilmore announced her resignation and issued the following statement: “I’ve had the privilege of working at The University of Alabama for thirty years as the director of behavioural medicine and an athletic trainer. We play Michigan in our final game, marking the conclusion of my trip. As I leave the pitch for the last time, I will carry with me a wealth of amazing connections, experiences, and memories.

“I want to express my gratitude to all of the previous student athletes and individuals I have had the honour of working with over the years! Thanks to the Bama Standard, I now have a fantastic opportunity to start my new journey. “Roll Tide Forever!”

After the Reliaquest Bowl game against Michigan on December 31, her tenure would come to an end. Dr. Gilmore started her career as an athletic trainer at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, where she worked for four years. Before Nick Saban took over the football team in 2007, she moved to Tuscaloosa and worked as the head athletic trainer for women’s baseball and basketball. Dr. Gilmore was specially chosen by the renowned head coach to lead his program’s efforts when Saban arrived.
