England winger responds to rugby union rumors despite long NRL contract

England international Dom Young has addressed ongoing rumors linking him to a potential switch to rugby union. The Sydney Roosters winger remains under contract for three more years, with his current deal running through to the end of the 2027 season.

Despite this, speculation about a cross-code move persists. Many believe Young, who has scored 63 tries in 73 NRL games, could transition to rugby union and become a prominent England international, following the path of former teammates Joseph Suaalii and Joseph Manu.

The 23-year-old, however, has clarified that while he has ‘considered’ the option, he has no plans to pursue it. Young, who began his career with the Huddersfield Giants in Super League before joining the Newcastle Knights and representing England at the 2022 World Cup, is happy at the Roosters.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph in Australia, Young said, “There have been some rumors recently, but I haven’t had any real talks. I’ve considered it in the past and spoken to a couple of clubs, but I came here. It’s not that I want to play union; it’s just something I’ve thought about.”

Young’s remarks align with statements from his agent, Michael Cincotta, who confirmed external interest in the winger. Speaking to the Telegraph, Cincotta said, “Rugby union has always shown strong interest in Dom. There were discussions before he started his NRL career, and he’s still just beginning to realize his potential.”
