In December and January, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was awarded the NFC Offensive Player of the Month. The NFL claims that Gibbs placed first among running backs in receiving yards, led the NFC in scrimmage per yard, and led the league with nine scrimmage touchdowns. In five games during December and January, he also finished fifth in the NFL in scrimmage yards.

The 22-year-old joins Maurice Jones-Drew, Barry Sanders, and Gale Sayers as the only players to have 21 games with a touchdown in his first two NFL seasons. During the 2024 season, Gibbs participated in all 18 games and scored 16 touchdowns. He led the team to a 31-9 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday by scoring four touchdowns, three of which came in the second half. The No. 1 seed and a bye week for the playoffs were guaranteed by this victory.

He was selected NFC Offensive Player of the Week after the game. Along with running back David Montgomery, Gibbs, who was selected by the Lions in the 2023 NFL Draft, forms one half of the Sonic and Knuckles tandem. The defensive end Kicker Joshua Karty of the Los Angeles Rams won Special Teams Player of the Month, while Leonard Williams of the Seattle Seahawks won NFC Defensive Player of the Month.
