The Texas Longhorns’ semifinal matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoffs didn’t require them to go far. The Longhorns played what may be seen as a home game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, which is home to the Dallas Cowboys, an NFL franchise, just three hours north of Austin, Texas.
Jerry Jones, the general manager and owner of the Cowboys, attended Friday night’s Cotton Bowl. But many supporters have had enough of the 82-year-old after the Cowboys had a poor NFL season. particularly after he claimed to be “all-in” during the 2024 offseason but failed to take any major roster-improving actions.
Having said that, the audience screamed at the long-time Cowboys owner when the enormous jumbotron in the centre of AT&T Stadium displayed Jones enjoying the Texas-Ohio State game from his suite. The message that Ohio State and Texas football supporters had for Jones was quickly brought to light by college football fans, who took to social media to share their responses and supporting evidence. “Jerry Jones appeared on AT&T Stadium’s video board. One fan said, “He was jeered.”
The crowd just booed Jerry Jones when showed on the video board,” added another.
Jerry Jones is show on the jumbotron to big boos by the crowd,” wrote a third. “Jerry Jones booed when he’s shown on the big screen in his own house. Rough,” commented a fourth. “Jerry Jones was just loudly booed when shown on the big screen during a TV timeout at the Cotton Bowl,” posted a fifth. “Everybody booing Jerry Jones when we comes on the Jumbotron >>>,” added a sixth.
One of Jones’s first choices after acquiring the Cowboys in 1989 was to appoint Jimmy Johnson as head coach. Dallas hasn’t made a significant postseason run since winning three Super Bowls in four seasons in the early 1990s, and Cowboys supporters have long been angry with the owner.
One of the few significant non-NFL athletic events that AT&T Stadium has hosted is the Cotton Bowl. It has also hosted the Big 12 Championship Game between the Iowa State Cyclones and Arizona State Sun Devils in recent months. Additionally, it benefited the well-liked boxing battle between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
