Former Michigan quarterback Alex Orji has announced his transfer to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), marking a new chapter in his college football journey.
The dual-threat quarterback decided to join the Rebels after entering the NCAA transfer portal in mid-December. He shared his commitment on Saturday night.
Although he had entered the portal, Orji remained with Michigan through their 19-13 victory over Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
During the game, he stepped in for starting quarterback David Warren, who exited with a knee injury.
Orji’s brief performance included completing 2 of 3 passes for 2 yards, one interception, and rushing for 9 yards on 4 carries. This appearance served as a final display of his skills before deciding to transfer.
At UNLV, Orji will play under newly hired head coach Dan Mullen,

The Rebels see Orji’s ability as a dual-threat quarterback as a key asset in revitalizing their offense.
With two years of eligibility left, Orji has an opportunity to establish himself as a leader and make an impact in his new team.
Orji is the second Michigan quarterback to transfer this offseason, following Jayden Denegal’s commitment to San Diego State. Both players’ departures leave Michigan with questions at the quarterback position, as head coach Sherrone Moore looks to new candidates for the role.
By joining UNLV, Orji seeks a fresh start and the chance to contribute to a growing program, moving forward from his backup role at Michigan.
