Notre Dame Faced Disheartening Transfer Portal News on Wednesday

Notre Dame Faced Disheartening Transfer Portal News on Wednesday

After suffering a national championship loss, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish are regrouping.

On Monday, the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Irish 34-23, ending their 13-game win streak.

After the season ended, Freeman and his staff received disappointing news about the transfer portal. On Wednesday, wide receiver Deion Colzie entered the portal after four seasons with the program, according to Pete Nakos of On3.

Over his career at Notre Dame, Colzie recorded 21 catches for 345 yards and three touchdowns.

A four-star recruit when he first committed to Notre Dame, Colzie was ranked as the No. 16 wide receiver and No. 102 overall player in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports.

Though Colzie wasn’t particularly productive during his time with the Irish, Notre Dame’s lack of depth at wide receiver makes the loss of an experienced player a tough blow.

The Fighting Irish wrapped up the college football season with a 14-2 record, securing victories over seven ranked teams: Army, Navy, Louisville, Texas A&M, Indiana, Georgia, and Penn State.

As Notre Dame works to bounce back after its College Football Playoff appearance and aims for improvement in the 2025 season, Colzie will be searching for a new destination.
