As a possible replacement for Aaron Glenn as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, Robert Saleh has been frequently touted. A Detroit native, the former head coach of the New York Jets was a finalist to take over as head coach of the Lions before Dan Campbell was hired. Considering everything that has come out of San Francisco, you can cross Saleh’s name off the Lions’ roster. Unless he finds a head coaching position elsewhere, he has already informed the San Francisco 49ers that he will serve as their defensive coordinator in 2025. Before joining the Jets, Saleh was the Niners’ DC. He was let go from the Jets in the middle of the previous season.

According to a source, Robert Saleh will be the 49ers’ defensive coordinator unless he is hired as head coach. He informed the team that the 49ers would

be his defensive coordinator if he were hired this season. — January 24, 2025, Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoNBCS) Saleh was also a candidate to take over as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ next head coach, but on Thursday, Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Cohen was appointed.
