The Washington Commanders received a minor penalty for striking Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff.

Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu is gearing up for the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles, but as he readies for this crucial matchup, the NFL is taking a hit to his finances.

“The NFL imposed a fine of $16,883 on Commanders LB Frankie Luvu for roughing the passer (contact to the head/neck) — the hit he delivered on Lions QB Jared Goff that contributed to a pick-six return,” tweeted NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

“No penalty was called on what became a crucial moment in Washington’s surprising victory.”

Luvu, 28, has significantly influenced the Commanders since joining this offseason. This season for Washington, he has tallied 99 tackles and a personal-best eight sacks, as the team has changed from one of the league’s worst to one of its best.

Luvu’s remarkable defensive play this season is a major factor in why the Commanders are only one victory away from their first Super Bowl appearance in 33 years.

If the Commanders manage to defeat the Eagles tomorrow, Luvu may not feel as upset about the league’s fine.
