Ben Johnson’s new offense for the Chicago Bears may incorporate some concepts from his time with the Detroit Lions, but just as he did with Jared Goff, Johnson will tailor the playbook to Caleb Williams.

“This offense will be built around him,” Johnson said about Williams during his introductory press conference. “We’re going to construct this from the ground up. It’s not a matter of just taking an old playbook and dropping it down. No, we’re tearing everything down and starting fresh with him at the center, then adding pieces around him. I’m excited to challenge him and push him to continue evolving and improving.”

Williams brings a different skill set compared to Goff, and to understand what Johnson may implement, we’ll talk to Bobby Peters on the next Bear & Balanced. Peters has authored books on various NFL offenses, making him the perfect person to break down some Xs & Os.

He’ll analyze Ben Johnson’s past passing schemes that could suit Williams, discuss how the Lions ran the ball so effectively, and review some of the things Williams excelled at in 2024 that are likely to be incorporated into their new playbook.
