Charles ‘Chuck’ Connor, a former scout for the Pittsburgh Steelers, passed away at the age of 87 on January 20th, as stated by his family in an obituary published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Connor departed this life peacefully.

A BLESTO scout in the 1960s at the beginning of his NFL career, Connor contributed to the initial stages of creating the Steel Curtain when the Steelers acquired key players for those teams such as ‘Mean’ Joe Greene.

Connor, a native of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, spent over four decades working in the NFL. He began his career as a player at the University of Cincinnati before taking on a coaching role at Montour High School in Pittsburgh.

He would enter the NFL as a scout for the Steelers prior to working with the iconic Miami Dolphins head coach Dan Marino, where he contributed to the construction of two Super Bowl-winning teams.

Ultimately, Connor attained the role of Director of Player Personnel with the Atlanta Falcons, who reached the Super Bowl in 1999. Connor contributed to the development of that team.

Connor is merely one of numerous iconic front-office figures who contributed to the revival of the Steelers’ franchise in the 1960s and achieved significant success throughout the league.
