Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff and his spouse Christen are involved in an investment group that has submitted an official proposal to return a WNBA team to Detroit.

Pistons owner Tom Gores placed the bid and assembled a strong investment team that features Lions owner Sheila Hamp.

“This presents an exciting chance to greet the WNBA’s return to Detroit and introduce further investment and economic growth into the city,” Gores stated in a released announcement. “For the WNBA, this is where it belongs, and our proposal symbolizes a unique chance for the league to complete its journey and realize a long-desired return to Detroit.” No city is better equipped to welcome the team as a community resource that fosters unity and shared identity.

The Detroit Shock departed from the city in 2009 after securing WNBA titles in 2003, 2006, and 2008.

“Detroit is a city that adores its sports teams and consistently supports them with unyielding enthusiasm,” Gores stated. “During a pivotal time in the expansion and evolution of the WNBA, it backed the local team more than any other franchise in the league.” “We’re here to revive that heritage.”

The statement revealed that besides Goff and his spouse, Gores and Hamp, other backers consist of ex-Piston Grant Hill and his partner, Tamia, former Piston and Detroit local Chris Webber, Arn and Nancy Tellem, along with a range of other figures from sports, entertainment, media, and finance sectors.

“I’m also happy with the wider collaborations we’re already forming for this bid,” stated Gores. “I’m thrilled about what we can accomplish together in creating success both on the court and within the community.”
