The Lions have brought on former Stanford head coach David Shaw as their new coordinator for the pass game, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Shaw, who served last season as a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos, joins a restructured offensive team that features new offensive coordinator John Morton, who is also transitioning from the Broncos, where he previously held the position of pass game coordinator.
Shaw served as the head coach of the Cardinal from 2011 to 2022, taking over from the current Chargers head coach, Jim Harbaugh. Shaw achieved a 96-54 record at Stanford, securing the Pac-12 conference title three times and the Rose Bowl on two occasions. During his initial years at Stanford, he coached quarterback Andrew Luck, the 2012 No. 1 draft pick.
Prior to taking on the role of head coach, Shaw served as the offensive coordinator for the Cardinal for four years.
Shaw has trained quarterbacks and wide receivers in the NFL, with his final coaching position in the league occurring in 2005 as the wide receivers coach for the Baltimore Ravens.
Previous pass game coordinator Tanner Engstrand is a candidate and may be viewed as the frontrunner for the offensive coordinator position with the New York Jets under newly appointed head coach and former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.
