‘No special treatment for him’: Ryan Day jokes about LeBron James joining Ohio State

Ryan Day jokes about LeBron James joining Ohio State: ‘No special treatment for him’

After another national championship win, Ohio State is stacked with top-tier athletes, but coach Ryan Day is open to adding one more. NBA legend LeBron James has shown interest in joining, but he’d have to earn his place.

While appearing on “The Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon asked Day about a tweet from LeBron regarding his NCAA eligibility. Day acknowledged that James, who was in Atlanta for the championship game, has always been a “great supporter” of the team and would be welcomed.

However, despite James’ fame and history with the Buckeyes, Day jokingly pointed out that the basketball star wouldn’t get any special treatment in Columbus. “He’d be right in line with the freshmen in the back of the room,” Day said. “He’d have to work his way up. No special treatment.”

James, who’s aware that he’d need to earn a spot, wouldn’t be deterred by the policy.

Although James might finish his NBA career before stepping onto the field at Ohio State, there’s still time if he wants to play for Day. At the national championship celebration, athletic director Ross Bjork mentioned that Day will be “the Buckeye coach for years to come.”
