NFC Team Poised to Lure Micah Parsons Away from Cowboys
Not many NFL teams would hesitate to pursue Dallas Cowboys’ Pro-Bowl pass rusher Micah Parsons if the opportunity arose, and several might do so this offseason.
Parsons is set to enter the fifth-year team option of his rookie contract, valued at $24 million. However, he is also pushing for a contract extension that would place him among the highest-paid players at his position league-wide.
Spotrac estimates Parsons’ market value to be $30 million per year on a new three-year deal, which could present a significant challenge for Dallas after their substantial financial commitments last offseason to retain quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Cee Dee Lamb.
Other teams with more available salary cap space could jump into the race for Parsons if he shows disinterest in signing whatever extension Dallas may offer.
In such a case, the Cowboys may be forced to consider a trade, securing value for Parsons rather than losing him for nothing in 2026, or 2027 if Dallas opts to use the franchise tag to keep him for another year.
The Chicago Bears currently possess one of the NFL’s largest salary cap spaces, with over $70 million available. They are also in need of another top pass rusher to pair with Montez Sweat, and have the draft capital to present a strong offer to the Cowboys for Parsons.
“If the Cowboys were to make Micah Parsons available, then the Bears should be among the first in line to make an offer,” wrote Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department on February 3. “They have the cap space and resources to get a deal done with an extension for the superstar.”
