Lakers Are Exploring Trade for Raptors Center
The Los Angeles Lakers were involved in one of the biggest trades in recent NBA history, but they aren’t stopping there.
They recognize the need for a solid big man to complete their roster and give LeBron James and Luka Doncic the best chance of reaching the Finals.
While they are targeting several stars, securing them will be a difficult challenge.
According to Michael Grange, the Lakers have shown interest in Jakob Poeltl of the Toronto Raptors, though Toronto is unlikely to part with him without a substantial offer.
“The Lakers have shown interest, but it’s believed that the Raptors are holding out for a package that includes a first-round pick (likely with some level of protection), and the only first-round pick the Lakers have left is a 2031 pick they’ve been holding onto for years,” Grange reported, according to NBACentral.
The Raptors are said to consider Poeltl a vital asset for their future, meaning they won’t trade him unless the Lakers present an offer they can’t refuse.
They’re seeking at least a first-round pick, but the Lakers are fiercely guarding their own.
It’s surprising the Lakers even have a remaining first-round pick after their trade with the Dallas Mavericks for Doncic.
Many assumed the Mavericks would demand several picks along with Anthony Davis and Max Christie, but they let Doncic go for far less.
Now, the Lakers hold just one first-round pick and will approach its use very cautiously.
Poeltl is averaging 14.4 points and 10.3 rebounds this season and could be a major asset for the Lakers, but it would take a significant offer to acquire him.
Will the Lakers make a move now or wait until the offseason to assess the market?
