Myles Garrett wasn’t the only unexpected trade news to emerge at the beginning of Super Bowl week. Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp turned to social media to effectively bid farewell to Los Angeles and its fans, noting that the team is planning to trade the former All-Pro receiver.

Although it is uncertain whether the Lions would be interested in acquiring Kupp, it is noteworthy that there are connections between Kupp and the Lions’ management. Present Lions general manager Brad Holmes served as the director of college scouting for the Rams when Kupp was picked in the fourth round of the 2017 draft.

Ray Agnew, the assistant general manager, was also involved in the Rams front office that selected Kupp. Agnew was in his inaugural season as the director of pro personnel for the Rams.

Current Rams general manager Les Snead was instrumental in constructing the Rams and played a crucial role in the team’s victory in Super Bowl 56. However, there’s no doubt that Holmes and Agnew played a crucial role in the decision-making process. If, by some chance, the Lions manage to strike a deal for Kupp — a deal that is far from certain at this moment — the two individuals spearheading the effort will be fully aware of what they are acquiring in Kupp and have some experience in providing him with a chance.
